  5. HELP! I need design advice for my home office

Okay, so i have a really boring cluttered home office and i really need help. It has white walls (blech) and a lot of black and dark cherry wood furniture. I really would like to keep with the cherry wood. Unfortunately i have a bland, uncomfortable futon (blue "mattress" with black "supports") that i can't get rid of. I also cannot get rid of the large map of town and the large high school class pictures displayed on the wall. (though i would appreciate some help on how to display them, right now its pretty much one, then below, another...) Anyone have any ideas for wall color ( i REALLY need help with that) and what i can do about the futon and what i should do about the wall displays and etc? Right now my home office is very cold, bland and unattractive-looking. I really want to soften it up while keeping the pieces i already have (2 end tables, 2 desks, a book shelf, all in dark cherry wood. Also the futon, though it seriously needs help). Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

  6. Need help designing a home office/dressing room?

We have very little closet space in our house. My husband's clothes are in a spare room down the hall in a huge armoire. I hate that his clothes don't have a closet, or fit in our bedroom. I don't know if I should try and design the spare room to be an office/dressing room that houses his clothes and still functions as an office/study, or if I should try and fit that huge armoire in our bedroom. (it will fit, but just barely and it will be really hard to move!) Any ideas on designing a dual purpose room or just a really nice office/study? Organization tips for a house with no closets?

  7. I am a laptop user, and am in the market for a full sized home office desk, preferably an L Desk?

I am a laptop user, and am in the market for a full sized home office desk, preferably an L Desk, but do not want one specifically designed for standard PCs, since that would be a waste of space. Any ideas?

  8. Need ideas for marketing my Computer Programming & Website design skills.?

I am self employed and do most of my work from my home office. I have two services to market. The first is a Website design service. The second Is a programming service...to just code to specs or assist in the design of an application and code to specs. I have particular talents (IBM COBOL focused, Visual Basic etc.). Why send the work offshore when I can do it from home? I'm looking for ideas on how to target market my services rather than just the shotgun approach. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My objective is to stay busy and keep marketing costs and labour to a minimum.

  9. What do you think is the best *new* idea for home offices? I'm writing an article and would love your input!

I'm working on a piece for a large newspaper and asking this question of design leaders around the country. I think the article would benefit from the users' perspective, too. What do you think is the best idea, trend or product for 208 home offices? Thanks for your input. By answering, you consent to having your reply published in print, either individually or as a group poll result. Thanks again! I've got the experience and the know how on web design and editing. I want to find a job where I can work at home in my office. Any ideas? Sorry emallee. You posted a bad link. It doesn't work

  11. How can I work from home?

Any ideas for LEGITIMATE jobs I can do from home? (not looking for any of those scams or jobs I have to pay $ to read about). I am open to a variety of things, but really looking for something I can do from my home office. I have experience in healthcare administration, travel, pets, graphic design, event planning, etc. Thanks!

  12. How do I submit my ideas to a greeting card business?

I have been designing inspirational postcards, greeting cards, and pocket size inspiration cards. Now, I need customers. =-) Any ideas where to start? I am a single mother of three children and am working on no income. I do everything from my home office and basically need to know how I can jump in to the market on fixed resources. Any information or ideas would be very much appreciated! FYI: I do have my own online business at desertrosedesign.net which I pay for monthly. I am trying to drive traffic to my site, and having little luck there. Does anyone know where I can find a list of Greeting Card companies for free rather than paying the $50-$100 most places are charging for that list?

  13. Need Solid Ideas for a Home-based Business?

I'm looking for good ideas on what type of home-based business to start-up. I've was recently "laid off" but I have funds put aside. Really, I don't wish to go back to working for someone else. I would like to hear about some solid, proven, home business or perhaps franchises that can be run from home maybe a computer/internet based service business. No MLM, affiliates programs, pyramid schemes or anything of the sort. Ideas that have crossed my mind: Blogging (I live in a tourist town and thought there might be opportunity in providing info about events in town). Online tutoring (Spanish, software programs like Photoshop). Domain name selling (like a reseller) Web site building (would have to learn web design first) Virtual Office Assistant. Video Resume Service I'm not sure which path to take right now but I'm looking for good solid ideas and I'll take this "time off" to research 'em and follow what looks like it may lead some where. Thanks everyone.

  14. Any Ideas on a Projector for a Cheap Home Theatre Setup?

I am wanting to set-up a home theatre projector at my house. Its primary purpose will be for watching DVDs and playing video games (i.e. Nintendo, XBox, etc.). I am not concerned with HDTV. The projector will need to sit between 15-23 feet from the screen. Additionally, I need the projector to be bright enough so that a little ambient light won't make it unviewable. I was hoping to get a brand name, or reputable projector of some form, however I was hoping to not spend over $800 on the projector itself. This projector WILL NOT be my primary TV, it will ONLY be used when I want to watch a DVD or play a video game. I was looking at the ViewSonic PJ556D, it looks like its designed for office presentations but I didnt know if there is any reason why I couldn't use it for my purpose? (I read somewhere that office-projectors migh not have the right color-wheel?) Please provide me with recommended projectors meeting the previous requirements and/or ideas/things to look for :) NOTE: Based off what I had read, I was looking at DLP projectors instead of LCD projectors.

  15. Home design issue: What can I do with a HUGE closet off of my living room?

I have a funny little cape cod house. Master Bath & Master bedroom along with another bedroom on first floor. In between the two bedrooms, off of the living room, is a strange 'closet' (maybe 10 x 12 room without any windows). I have had my office in there and its just not a nice area and I'm looking for ideas. I have a loft that serves as a playroom, which I'm going to move my desk/CPU at. I was thinking about making it a craft room or a place for my workout equipment. I just don't know. Its such a dreary weird room, but I don't want the space to go to waste.....

  16. I am trying to open a subcontracting landscape design business in Boston. Any idea how I do it?!?

I would be working mostly from my home office for other designers with their own companies. - Do I need an LLC or sole proprietor thing? - Tax suggestions? - General Liability Insurance? - Need to change my car insurance?

  17. Hi all, I am looking for ideas for a business name.?

What I am wanting my business to be about will be bookkeeping and office duties from home. The idea of a bit of humour and personality in it would be an advantage, something that is catchy and memorable. I have had a look around this site and some of the ideas you all seem to come up with are brilliant and creative!! My other question is how do I check if this name is available for business registration in South Australia? I know how to check the AusRegistry for domain name but the name needs to be able to be registered. One last question, because I don't have a lot of money to start up with I am wanting to also come up with a logo for business cards etc. does anyone know where I can go to get one designed for a pretty good price? I think that's all the questions.. lol Thankyou so much for any help, I appreciate it. Thankyou for these ideas so far. I was also thinking I guess it should be a short catchy name. I used to have a business called "Write for the Job" which was resumes, but the name was too long and a bit confusing with the Write/Right wording, so it was a really great catchy name but just a bit too confusing. I would kill for more ideas, Thankyou so much for the ideas that you have already put there.

  18. Does anybody know of a GENUINE work from home business?

I have been on Permitted Work through Mental Illness, although I have tried to get a Design/Online Print Business going I am struggling. What with being strapped for cash the only work I've got is for various Charities. Any ideas welcome although I should say with my condition I would not cope working in a mainstream Studio or Office. Regards, DaveyTom.

  19. I need tips on interior designs any referals e.g magazines . thanks?

I intend on starting interior designing as a bussiness but i have little knowledge, though i am creative i need ideas on where to get the best info on interior designs for homes and offices.

  20. I need some design advice on my blinds?

I am in the process of building my house. I am getting prices and ideas for my blinds and I am wondering what color blinds I should do. My home is a country wrap around porch, hickory kitchen cabinets and rustic trim. My doors are going to be white hollow core with a bead board look in them (Jeldwen, Sata Fe style), except the office door, it's in the entry way and kind of a focal point so it's going to be a double hung solid wood knotty alder door with windows in it. I am doing a rough sawn look for my base and case and I think I want to do white blinds. I am having trouble visualizing this. Will it look okay? I am going to have a lot of wood and neutral colors in my house so I kind of want to stay away from wood colored blinds. Any advice out there or any websites I can go to and see some photos of other windows and homes?? Also, I am looking cost effective. I don't want super expensive, but I want a good quality blind. I am fine with faux woods, but I don't want cheap crap either. The exterior of my house is a tan, almost gray siding with a ledgestone wainscot in various shade of tan and dark browns and grays, white trim, dark charcoal shutters and dark stained rough sawn timber porch posts

  21. Good website design tips..?

I am planning to build my website which gives some good tips on interior and furniture for your office as well as home. I am looking for some helpful tips and ideas, please share your tips for good website design..

  22. How do we convince them that it looks like crap???

My bosses at work have rotten taste, I mean ROTTEN. They just bought a beautiful new building for us to relocate to nearby and it was previously an interior/home design studio (so you can imagine the beautiful arcitecture and design on the interior). They plan on using out current old ass desks, huge, dented filing cabinets and pretty much nothing matches. All of us girls have been trying to help make suggestions on how to place things in order for this place to flow and the more we suggest to more rediculous their ideas become. It looks like a huge garage sale in our beautiful new office! Help!

  23. Dream job or go for practicality?

I'm 24, a newly single mom and am being urged to go into the nursing field by everyone around me since there are SO many positions available...lotsa job security. However since I can remember I've always wanted to go into interior design. The idea of being in charge of the structure and design of homes/offices/businesses really excites me and even just THINKING about it makes me happy! Nursing seems like it could be rewarding but doesnt excite me the way interior design does. Wouldnt you say life is too short to not enjoy what you're doing? What do you think I should do: go for practicality or passion?

  24. Campaign Finance Reform: Ideas?

How about this: Anyone who wants to run for public office designs a flyer, which is mailed by the government to the voters' homes, and if a determined number of people sign their support, this person is on the ballot and receives a certain amount from the government (based on the office and possibly other factors, number of people in voting pool, etc..) to spend on their campaign and are not allowed to spend a penny more. if people don't like the fact that this comes from their tax money, keep in mind that when corporations finance campaigns, they're planning to get the money back from your tax money anyway. any ideas, suggestions, criticism? Michelle: The number of signatures would be a requirement to be on the ballot, nothing else... if it were used to determine how much money they receive, it would mean the two main parties from before the reform would receive an unfair amount, in my opinion. and if they sent out the wrong number of flyers, it would be a crime, like any election fraud.

  25. How can I design my bedroom? I NEEED ANSWERS.?

My dad designed to give me a new bedroom, because my old one is very childish, and he's going to make it into a home office . My dad say's I can paint/decorate it, he'll help me . I can also get new furniture and such . I live in Canada . What color's do you suggest for a mature, 13 almost 14 year old girl, who want's a good mature cute room? Ps: I have this idea of doing it all dark purple & then in white a quote using a stencil with all white furniture, I don't know really . Just an idea . I'd like something on the wall rather then just color. Give detail on what color the furniture should be . What color to paint the room . Etc. Wow, I made a mistake in the first sentance sorry people. It's supposed to say "My dad DECIDED .." Sorry .

  26. What should I paint on my wall?

I have an office/guest bedroom in my home. It has off white walls & I'm going to paint a design on one wall. What design (easy to draw) could I do or where can I look for ideas?

  27. What do you think? Interior decorators needed!?

We just bought a new house and I have a home office. I'm thinking I'm going to go with a modern Paris theme and paint all 4 walls with a silver grey color and then splatter one of the walls with red black and white paint. I have a black desk that will go against the splattered wall and above it I thought I would hang 3 8x10 black and white wedding photos. I'm not sure about this...I just kind of designed/made this up in my head and I wanted a second opinion or MORE IDEAS! Thanks! Feel free to redesign if you have an awesome idea for a home office! 10 points for best answer!

  28. What kind of job would be good for someone that can use a computer well, but not communicate that well?

She can navigate the Internet very well, knows the Microsoft Office Suite pretty well, different operating systems, troubleshoots some, types fast when instant messaging friends but not that fast when copying text. She lives and breathes the computer most of the day. Most computer related jobs require excellent communication skills, including some telephone work. Is there something more routine that she could do. Don't say data processing because the job openings usually require the ability to type 80 words a minute and when timed, she is about 35 wpm. She has an Associate's Degree with a concentration in computers: a little of everything - hardware, software, a little web design, a little programming, etc. Other than a semester of unpaid internship she has no work experience. Any ideas for paid work at a business or at home? As far as web design goes she was able to learn the basics of html, but on her own needs help with designing the webpage (the creativity part).

  29. I'm trying to figure out if Web Design and Develpment is a good move.?

Well I'm currently in college but I was thinking about changing my major to Web Design and Development but I'm wondering if that would be good. I love the internet and computers but the main thing I'm worried about is how hard it's going to be to find a job in Web Design and Development once I'm done with school. Does anyone know if there are a lot of jobs out there for these and can people who do Web Design and Development work from home as well as in an office? So I'm kind of at a cross roads and just needing a little information and have no idea who or where to go to so if anyone has any suggestions or advice I would appreciate it. Thanks.
