   My parents & I are having a house built & we have an appointment at the home design center. They say it should take about 4 hours. Does it really take that long to pick out countertops & molding? What kinds of things should we be looking for?

3. What is the easiest home design software to use?

   My 12 yr old son wants to be an arcitect and we have played around with some of the less expensive ($9.99) home design software, but they seem a little hard to get started with. Anyone know if a very simple one to purchase? We were thinking of the Better Homes & Gardens series, maybe find one on e-bay..

   I have some architectural training, am a graphic designer and wish to draw my own plans for an addition and new dormer for my home. I would like to try colors out in the rooms, play around etc. It has been some time. Years ago I used Vectorworks and Autocad. I wish to use something more simple and more designed for the homeowner. 9. Is there home design software that allows real photos?

   We want to re-design the front of our home (new porch, different paint colors, etc.). Is there any sort of software program that would allow us to use an actual digital photo of the front of our home and then alter the color scheme accordingly? If not, any suggestions as to a FREE user-friendly program that is available for download? Thanks.

10. New build home Design Center Upgrades? Which ones improve the homes value?

    I think I got a great deal on a new build home. Now it's time for the landscape, wiring, and design center appointments. I'm cool in all areas except the design center. Light fixtures, faucets, etc, I can do myself. Is it smart to upgrade the counter tops, cabinets, sinks, etc (major items)? The costs of these items are rolled into the price of the home at closing. OR should I wait until my finances permit and do them myself? The only thing I'm sure on upgrading is the carpet pad.

    I'm trying to find a good but affordable home design program that will let me take a pic of outside or in , then stick it onto my computer to render into the program to put objects or paint schemes, decorate, floor plan, etc. I was thinking of Total 3D but I saw bad ratings on it and people say its really clunky. Ok, I found Total 3D and its about 29.00. But it got bad ratings so I'm wanting to look for another.

17. I am looking for an inexpensive home design for a small and narrow lot 28x72. I want a simple lean to shape.?

    Most homes are too wide and the modernist homes are nice but too expensive. I only need windows on the front and the back. I do not need a garage, but I do need a drive. I have front and back street access and it needs to be built on piers. I would like 2 bedrooms with 1 or 2 baths and an open floor plan with the living and kitchen areas. It should be 1,000 sq ft or under and a very simple inexpensive design. I feel like I have few options because I want to keep the cost down and no one makes money that way. I only need maybe 2 interior doors at the most and I would like my closets to have rolling barn style panels. I do not want a pitched roof but I do want a lean to style roof, so the living room seems vaulted but I can put the duct work above the ceiling in the bedrooms. I want the bedroom and baths on one side, with a porch and living space on the otherside possibly wrapping around the back. It does not seem that this should be so complicated. Help where can I get a design cheap.
